In life, love, and in art, Cathy Lemons is no brakes, all throttle....Cathy Lemons is a blues singing legend who has performed regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area for 25 years. She has been described as the finest light-skinned female blues vocalist in the U.S (Real Blues 2010) with a velvety and hypnotic voice"resonant of a female Howlin Wolf (Fulltimeblues 2010). Originally from Dallas, TX she honed her chops with the likes of Anson Funderburg and performed with Stevie Ray Vaughan. She has worked with some of the great names in blues including John Lee Hooker (she toured as his send-off singer in 1987), Tommy Castro, Ron Thompson, Kid Andersen, Steve Freund, and many others. In her new Squeeze Play/Vizztone release, BLACK CROW, Cathy and her band hone the vibrant gospel, blues, and R&B traditions of her native Texas into a womans love rights for the new milennium. Adding the rich flavors of Memphis soul, James Brown funk, and sweet Delta blues, the recording illustrates Cathys personal story of joy, heartache, and redemption. Of the ten tunes included, six were written by Cathy, with covers by New Orleans legend Earl King, Kim Wilson (of the Fabulous Thunderbirds), James Brown, and Kieran Kane (the OKanes). Of particular note is the emotional ache and breathless beauty of the title tune, Black Crow, co-written with producer/multi-instrumentalist Stevie Gurr (Elvin Bishop, Dr. John, Zigaboo Modeliste), which is so compelling it begs repeated listening. Recorded at the Greaseland Studios of co-producer Kid Andersen, along with guest musicians Doug Mr. Low James (Roomful Of Blues, Jimmy Vaughn) and highly respected guitarist, VizzTone artist Volker Strifler, Cathy has recorded what is indeed her best work ever.
