Awesome recording of the Adverts on the John Peel Show from 1977! 1st UK Press oN Strange Fruit Records.
The Adverts made their debut on the John Peel show on April 25, 1977, recording the five-track session that would, a full decade later, become one of the flagship releases in Strange Fruit's Peel Sessions series. A- and B-sides of the upcoming "One Chord Wonders" single were featured, of course, together with both sides of what they intended to be their next 45, "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" and "Bored Teenagers," and the live favorite "Newboys." And if anybody required evidence of just how far The Adverts had progressed in the four months since their first live show, or their recorded debut on the Live at the Roxy compilation, this was it. Away from the live arena, tempos are steady and lyrics leap out -- but it remains a rough-and-ready roar, and it's clear just how far The Adverts were ahead of the rest of the punk pack. They would never become as big or (at least during their lifetime) as beloved as they deserved, but it wasn't through lack of evidence or quality.
